Show FARM IN THE HOLLOW In 1914 we moved to Mountain Green Where I operated a farm in the hollow south of Rosehill Cottage. By then we had three children; Arvel Lester, Iona and Helen. The little ranch house was built of local white sandstone with walls 14 inches thick. We had a kitchen, one bedroom and a living room. There was a large granary against the side hill with a cellar underneath and a 'shanty' that connected the house to the cellar. We were going to do big things in the ranching business, but not being ac¬quainted with this kind of work and what it takes to finance and stock a ranch, we didn't have much success. Besides, the winters were long and the 25 below zero weather with snow 12 to 24 inches deep, was hard to take. In 1916 and 1917 I helped build a new meeting house for the Mountain Green Ward. It was also built of white sandstone. We had many spiritual and social experiences there which we always remembered. In 1917 we sold out and moved back to Clinton. In the fall we bought a ten-acre farm in Sunset which had a small house on it. Here I served as superinten¬dent of the MIA. I served two and a half years in the Sunset Bishopric, then we moved back to Clinton. I served 12 years on the Weber Stake High Council. We had a good chance to sell the Clinton farm and we moved back to Sunset. I was asked to again serve as superintendent of the MIA, then served for two years in the Bishopric. When the Bishop moved to Idaho I was sustained as Bishop of the Sunset Ward. This calling lasted five years. I also served in the Scouting program for 25 years where I was awarded the Silver Beaver, Silver Arrow, Scoutmaster Key and other awards."
