Show THE FAMILY OF AINER C.J. AND ELIZABETH GROW OLSEN Ainer Olsen, Farmer and Musician 1902-1903 When Ainer Charles John Olsen was growing up in Milton and Peterson, Morgan County, he excelled in two things: baseball and music. He played on the Peterson Baseball Team and tooted a horn in the Peterson Band, two activities that he loved. He was born in Milton 18 May 1873, the youngest child of Anders and Helena Anderson Olsen. His parents had joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints near Oslo, Norway and emigrated to the United States some time before 1873, settling in Milton. As a youth he learned to play the piano, violin, harmonica, and the wind in¬struments, playing for dances, programs and socials in the area. He was a good student. At age 25 he married Ida Salter. The wedding took place 15 October 1898 and the young couple settled in Huntsville. Three children were born: Harold Ainer, Kenneth William, and a baby girl. The baby daughter died at birth and about 10 days later Ida died. Both are buried in the Huntsville Cemetery. Ainer married Anna Elizabeth Grow, daughter of Charles Moyer and Elizabeth Ann Langlois. Her birthdate was 5 July 1873. Ann Elizabeth's grandfather, Henry Grow, was architect of the Salt Lake LDS Tabernacle, a very beautiful and historical building. Their first son, Clyde, was born in Hagerman, Idaho after which the family moved to Mountain Green. Ainer, who loved farming, rented the farm of Joshua Will¬iams and lived in a little rock house south of Rosehill Cottage. 234 |
