Show 1926 LeRoy and Henrietta Smith Morris lived in Cotton¬wood Canyon for about a year. His father, Conway Mor¬ris, had bought the ranch from Porter Walton in the Spring of 1918. LeRoy tells the story: "We were married 17 April 1920 and moved to the Cottonwood Ranch in 1926. The ranch was sold to Geo¬rge Mildon. We stayed and worked for him until the Fall of 1927. We sold wheat for 70 cents a bushel, hay for $6 a ton and good beef cattle weighing up to 1,100 pou-nds for 5 cents a pound. We went through the bad de¬pression following World War II and it seemed that the depression would never end. We loved that ranch and hated to part with it. When we lived on the ranch we went to the Mountain Green Ward where Alonzo Parrish was Bishop. In September of 1927 we moved to LaBarge, Wyoming to work on a ranch there, called the Hox and Keller Ranch. Etta cooked for the ranch help. They ran 1,000 head of cattle and we didn't stay there too long. In the Spring of 1928 I got a job as sexton at Wasatch, Utah. In February of 1929 began construction of the natural gas line from Wyoming to Salt Lake City. This was completed in November. The Company gave me a job riding the line from Morgan to Coalville and then on to Salt Lake City. I stayed on this job until 1932 when the Company gave me a job at a gas station in Coalville. This was called the Uintah Gas Company, later changed to Mountain Fuel. I worked 32 years and five months for the Gas Company, retiring 1 September 1961. Since my retirement we have built four homes: one in Roy and three in Sto¬ddard, Morgan County. Before the Ogden Temple was built we went to the Salt Lake Temple and had our children sealed to us. Our first two children, LeRoy and Henrietta, lived only six weeks. The boy was born in Morgan and the girl was born in Cottonwood Canyon. We made two trips to Alaska, one in 1954 and the other in 1971. Since 1963 we have been going to Arizona for the Winter months. On 17 April 1985, we will celebrate our 65th wedding anniversary. While living in Arizona we attended Church LEROY & HENRIETTA MORRIS 334 |
