Show Gila River Indian Reservation. Nellie took her father, John Heber Robinson, a widower, with her so she could care for him. The two became active in the Coolidge Branch of the LDS Church. They also opened their home to the LDS Miss¬ionaries. Ed and Nellie returned to Mountain Green in about 1931 and moved into the old home 'up on the hill'. Here they cared for her father until his death in 1936. The old home was remodeled and Ed and Nellie again took up their activities in the Mountain Green Ward. Nellie died in 1963 and Ed followed her two years later. Both are buried in the Uintah Cemetery where their three daughters were buried. Their part of the old Robinson farm was sold and is now covered with new homes. —Dee Marston, Ogden; Berneice R. Day, Layton; Muriel R. Shupe, N. Ogden HOME ON ARIZONA INDIAN RESERVATION OLD PHOTOGRAPHS AND SASSAFRAS TEA Old photographs quite often bring New substance to most everything. It's comforting sometimes I think Of sassafras tea I used to drink. For growing pains, Grandmother said, 'Twill thin the blood and clear the head. I think of shadows piled up deep And Tabby curled up fast asleep. The child-sized chair in which I sat To dream beside the drowsy cat... And, heavy eyed, I'd check and find Each parlor wall ancestor-lined. And wondered why girls looked so prim While their young suitors looked so grim. Then Gran would smile and softly say Time only makes them seem that way. Now as I walk time's narrow hall Those sober faces I recall, Looked happier to me somehow; For Grandma's smile they've borrowed now. Or else it's true what once she said Her sassafras tea has cleared my head. 242 |
