Show Here I spent the remainder of my life until I retired. In 1925 I had married Ethel Lofthouse in Salt Lake City. The marriage date was 24 August. My Church activities included serving in the Sunday School and YMMIA Superintendency, both on a Ward and Stake basis. My civic activities included serving 18 years on the Centerville Town Board and as Mayor of Centerville City. After all these many years I still have fond memories of driving up and down Weber Canyon and stopping at the little refreshment stand owned by John Heber Rob¬inson for a cold drink and a pleasant visit. —F. Wallace Walton, Centerville Frank Jewett from Quebec Cottonwood Canyon mines drew men from all over the Country who came to work in the mines or do a little prospecting on their own. One of these men was Frank Jewett. According to the 1900 Census, Frank Jewett, a Canadian from Quebec, was bus¬ily engaged in quartz mining in Cottonwood. His name appears many times over the years in the old ledger kept by John and Lucinda V. Robinson. It shows that he did considerable business while living in Mountain Green. Frank Jewett was born in March of 1856. He was a widower, 44 years of age in 1900. Records show that he owned a home which was paid for and had lived in the United States 14 years, emigrating to the United States in about 1886. For about three years Frank lived in the Warner home where he took care of four young men. They were Ralph and Bill Warner, John Stoddard and Steve Winches¬ter. Ralph wrote the following: School days in Uintah were not too happy and the blame was my own. Leaving school in Uintah in 1899 I was sent to the ranch in Mountain Green after quitting school. This was the worst punishment I ever had. (Ralph was 11 years old at the time) He taught Frank to play the harmonica. What became of him and where he went is not known, but the records kept by John and Lucinda are interesting to read: 251 |
