The dairy was built over a spring on the Porter property in Mountain Green. (This spring is still flowing, 1985) Milk for the cheese factory came from cows that were 'rented' for the summer from farmers in Morgan, Weber and Davis Counties. The cows were pastured in the lush green grassland of the Weber drainage. Cheese from the factory was sold at the Centerville Co-op and at ZCMI store in Salt Lake City. The cheese factory was later moved to the Parrish ranch. When the railroad made eastern cheese more available at a lower cost, the Cottonwood factory was closed down. The big spring, which flowed from under the building and kept the milk products cool, is still flowing freely." The following information is from the biography of Melvin Howard Randall: "The ranch consisted of over 1000 acres in the Cottonwood area, plus a large cottage where teenage boys and girls from Centerville spent their summers on the ranch. The boys tended the cows and livestock and the girls were in charge of the cooking, cleaning, washing and mending.
