He was buried by his wife, Margaret, in the Bountiful Cemetery. --Margaret Warner Ranson BIG BILL SMITH, FRIENDLY NEIGHBOR Bill Smith was just what the name implied--a big man with a big heart who took all the neighbor kids under his wing, listening to their tales of woe and rejoicing with them in their stories of bravery. William Smith was born 25 September 1878 in Morgan, Utah, a son of William and Sarah Sims Smith. He grew up in Stoddard with three sisters and one brother. Big Bill as a farm hand, and a good one. He worked for nearly all the farmers in the Morgan Valley, especially those who lived in Mountain Green. He spent much time at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Robert and Ileen Kippen who lived on Dry Creek. He loved to hunt and fish and supplied the neighbors with all types of game for their dining tables. He was a good dancer and one always found him swinging his partner or whooping it up at a square dance when the occasion came along. Bill was a peacemaker and helped to keen the peace at some of the dances when rowdy strangers got out of hand. This was at the Peterson dances when Ralph Warner was dance floor manager. William (Big Bill) Smith died 22 October 1943 at his sister's home in Mountain Green and was buried in the Preston, Idaho Cemetery. Margaret Warner Ranson, Ogden EARLY SAWMILLING. A family named McLane operated a sawmill on Strawberry Creek in the early 1860s. Mountain Green Branch records revealed the following: Ida Caroline McLane was rebaptized in the Mountain Green Branch 20 March 1861 by T. S. Johnson. She was confirmed 28 March 1861.
