Show and rock houses laid carefully out on the ground. We played baseball, using a flat board for a bat, and Mother was the greatest hitter of us all. Dad took the boys deer hunting and as they grew older and brought their families home, he took them along too. The summers were full of hard work, but we had time to play. There were horses to ride after the men came in from the hay fields. We went swimming in Bishop Parrish's reservoir or in our own irrigation ditches. There wer always plenty of rainbow trout, very easily caught with one's hands. There were bonfires with potatoes cooked in the coals, coming out all black, but we thought they were delic¬ious. There was penny pitching and many times Mother would play the piano and sing to us, or we would all sing. Mother sang all the old songs such as: "Daddy, Dear Daddy, Come Home With Me Now" "Hello Central, Give Me Heaven", and "Thank the Lord the Light Was Green." The Wilkinsons loved Mountain Green and the little LDS Ward. People were very kind and friendly. Mother and dad worked for the community and the church. Dad served as president of the Morgan County School Board and did much work for the church such as painting and papering the ward and stake houses. Mother served as president of the MIA, worked in the Sunday School and directed speech and drama in the ward. She served as president of the Morgan County Chapter of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. It was under her direction that the DUP Museum was built in Morgan County. The children were active in Church affairs and also in school functions. Dad died 19 May 1981 in Bountiful, Davis County. Mother passed away ten years earlier, 8 June 1971 in Ogden. Their children meet frequently and enjoy doing things together. Our love for one another if very deep and lasting. Alice Wilkinson Sessions SHIRLEY COLE BERT 320 |
