by fire and a handsome sandstone school was erected on the same location. The fire did not put an end to class work. Joshua Williams provided a school room in the Rose Hill Cottage and his son, James, transported Mountain Green students to and from school in his surrey. This service was rendered for about two years with Ansta Gamble as one of the teachers. In 1909 the school had an enroll¬ment of 84: 37 boys and 47 girls. Trans¬portation was by canvas covered wagon and team. Some early Mountain Green school wagon drivers were James L. Robinson, Clifton and Earl Robinson, Letty R. Ray, Ralph Warner and George (Coddy) France. The trip to and from school took three hours. In 1918 a yellow brick building was erected alongside the sandstone structure, which was torn down to make room for a recreation area. A spring was developed be¬hind the school for drinking water. In 1936 parents approved the consolidation of all Morgan County Schools and students were bussed to the new school complex in South Morgan. The yellow brick school was sold to the Peterson IDS Ward for $1 and was used for recreation purposes Lawrence Pendleton moved his family into the old building where they lived for 22 years.
