Show Joseph and Emma Garn Ford spent time on the ranch for several summers. He served an LDS Mission to the Southern States. They were parents of 16 children. In 1929 their Davis County home was destroyed by a flood. Thomas and Isabelle Cook Ford lived on the ranch for several years. He remembered bringing 40 or 50 cows from the pasture each night and doing his share of the milking. The couple had seven daughters. Isabelle was a daughter of Bishop David S. Cook of South Weber. John William Ford married Alice Rollins and they began their honeymoon driv¬ing a wagon load of calves from Centerville to the Mountain Green Ranch. Their pet dog trotted all the way tied under the wagon. They were parents of 6 children. Joseph N. and Algie Walker Ford lived on the ranch several summers, where he worked alongside other members of the Ford family in running the ranch. Joseph served two missions for the LDS Church, the first to and the second to the Eastern States. After their marriage he served as Bishop of the Centerville Ward and the Centerville Second Ward. Active in civic affairs, he served as secretary-treasurer of the Utah Casket Company, director of the Union State Bank in Bountiful, member of the Davis County Board of Education and Chairman of the Davis County Flood Control Committee. James Hyram and Hannah Ford also lived various summers in Mountain Green. James received his education in Centerville and attended the University of Deseret. He herded sheep and cattle on the Mountain Green Ranch. The couple had 7 children. In August of 1923, a terrific storm hit the area and the resulting cloudburst demolished their home. Two years later a new brick home was built on the site of the former house, James and a son went into the dairy business and also raised poultry. The venture was a success for the two. —The Ford Family, Centerville FORD RANCH HOUSE IN MOUNTAIN GREEN 177 |
