A Salute to the Early Pioneers The book, "Mountain Green, the Beautiful," is dedicated to the memory of the early Pioneers whose faith, courage and love of the Gospel gave them the incentive to leave their former lives behind to establish new homes in the isolated Valley of Mountain Green. Although few in number, their dedication to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and belief in the advantages of a good education was evident from the very beginning. No sooner were their humble homes built than they turned their energies to the erection of a log chapel which doubled as a school house. Here parents took turns instructing the children in the 'Three R's.' With the assistance of the crudest of tools they developed the land for farming and stock raising, thus establishing financial stability to the little community. Truly, the desert blossomed as a rose. Mountain Green was typical of all early LDS settlements throughout the Rocky Mountain Area, wherein neighbor helped neighbor, sharing his joys and sorrows, his good times and bad They were and are a chosen people.
