The Bybees delivered cord wood and charcoal to the military base in Salt Lake and also supplied local shoemakers with tan bark for dying shoes. When the new frame school building was constructed, David Bowman Bybee was awarded the contract and furnished the lumber. The year was 1875. Joshua Williams operated a sawmill in Cottonwood and other Canyons in Morgan County. About 1866 he had contracted with Wells Fargo Stage Company to supply the line with hay for their teams. Stages traveled through Weber Canyon and connected with the main stage line at Echo. Joshua also kept a way station for stage passengers. John Robinson Jr. owned and operated a sawmill on Gordon Creek. He, along with other mill owners in the valley supplied ties for the Union Pacific Railroad bed through the Canyon. John Jr. and son, John Heber, also worked with team and scraper on the grading of the railroad bed. Sawmilling seemed to be in the blood of the Robinson 'clan'. John Jr. and sons, Orson and Alonzo, operated their father's mill both in Mountain Green and in Wolverine Valley of the Taylor Mountains near the Blackfoot River in Idaho. John Heber and sons, Jim and Steve, set up a sawmill on Strawberry Creek. As timber became scarce the mill was moved to various canyons in Morgan County where good stands of trees were available. This particular mill was operated until about 1918 or 1920, then closed down when timber on Peterson Creek was fairly well exhausted. John Heber allowed a man to use the mill and the fellow hauled the machinery to Cottonwood Canyon and abandoned it.
