Show MYRON SPENCER HIGLEY PRISCILLA EBBERSON The Higleys -- Myron and Priscilla 1857 Myron Spencer Higley was a very religious man and a great reader of Church doctrine. He knew the Bible from cover to cover, and rode his horse in all kinds of weather to attend his meetings. Myron and Priscilla were parents of 11 children, nine living to adulthood. About 25 years after his birth on December 29, 1801, in Bridgewater, New York, he met and married Priscilla Ebberson. She was born August 2, 1806, in Leeds County, Canada. Her father, George Ebberson, was a Methodist minister and a very prayerful man. Her mother's name was Zipporh or Aaporah Garbinson Ebberson. Myron and Priscilla lived in Leeds for 10 years. He owned a sawmill and turned out wooden bowls on his turning lathe. These articles were sold in neigh¬boring towns, and sometimes traded for food and other needs. When the Higleys moved to Port Leydon, New York, they first heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, preached by Elder Orson Hyde and his miss¬ionary companion. After being converted and baptized the family moved with a large company of Saints to Benton Fort, Illinois, so they could be close to the main body of the Church. Because the country was so new it was difficult for Myron to make a living for his family. Their main object was to go west to Utah as soon as possible.
