Show JOSEPH DAVID FRANCE ADELAIDE GYDE FRANCE Joseph David France Pioneer of 1871 Numbered with the more than 100 families who made their home in Mountain Green between 1856 and 1930 were one wife, at least nine children and numerous grandchildren of Joseph David France. Most of them lived on the old France farm on Dry Creek where the new Mountain Green Stake Center will be located. Joseph David France was born in Sugar Loaf, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, September 9, 1813, a son of William and Ann Wale France. He married Betsy Cady Card in the State of New York and the couple had two children, Amanda and Dewilt. Amanda is a grandmother of the Rollins family in Mountain Green. The family moved to Winter Quarters, then crossed the plains in 1849. Joseph had only one oxen to pull his wagon. Mary Ellen Kudor, member of the party, owned a Durham cow. They hitched the two animals together and proceeded on their way. Joseph took up land in Centerville and in Jan¬uary of 1850 married Mary Ellen.
