Show The Mountain Green farm produced hay and grain which fed a herd of cattle kept on the ranch. During the Winter months the Waites returned to their little home in Bountiful where John Anson taught school in 1885-1886. Their first child was bom in Bountiful in 1885. They named her Lucina. Five more children were born in Mountain Green, John Earl, Elbert Ernest, Alvin Barnes, Leon Loveland and Gerald Sessions. The family had returned to Mountain Green in the Spring of 1886 where John was called to serve a stake mission. His missionary responsibilities continued through 1886 and 1887. He was ordained a Seventy and became a member of the 35th Quorum of Seventy. In November of 1888 he was ordained Presiding Elder of the Mountain Green-Peter¬son Branch and one year later the branch became a ward and he was sustained Bishop of the combined congregations. For ten years John Anson Waite served as Bishop. Then in 1899 the Mountain Green farm was traded for 80 acres of farmland in Syracuse, Davis County. This made it possible for the children to attend school without having to travel so far. John Waite home Green Morgan Co, Utah 1899 SKETCH OF MOUNTAIN GREEN HOME BY JOHN AND ELBERT An additional 55 acres were purchased in West Syracuse, increasing their holdings to 135 acres. Here three more children were born to the couple: Ira, Victor, and Silverine. John and Lucina were very active in the Syracuse Ward. He served for 16 years as ward clerk, Sunday School officer and as secretary to the Davis Stake YMMIA. In 1924 the West Syracuse home was sold and a new red brick home built on the original 80 acres. In February of 1928 John and Lucina were called to work in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. 200 |
