A huge rock thundered down the mountain-side and rolled onto the track. The engine hit the boulder and rolled into the river. William managed to get out in time but his fireman was killed. Soon after the accident William retired. He had served 37 years and was the first engineer to be pensioned by the Union Pacific Railroad Company. In the Spring of 1919 the ranch was sold to Ralph and Harry. William and Minnie roved to South Salt Lake. He became a familiar figure in Sugar house as he strolled around, making new friends. Because of his expertise, women came from all over to have him pare the painful corns on their feet, when visiting Ralph back on the ranch, wanting their feet doctored. In those days bad fitting shoes caused all kinds of foot trouble. Minnie was amover and made every move count, even though she suffered with mis-shapen feet caused by bunions. During her lifetime she was a midwife to many women in the tiny community. She seemed to have a knack for nursing the sick. To the young kids her prescription for what ailed them was a big dose of castor oil washed down with orange juice. It was a sure cure for a lot of ailments! Minnie Alena Candland Warner died 22 May 1935, in Salt Lake City. William Goodman Warner lived until 22 December 1943. Both are buried in the Salt Lake Cemetery. Margaret Warner Ranson, Ogden 233
