Show from Ogden to Green River. The ditching provided drainage where water could run off the tracks and keep the railroad bed dry. Glen Ray remembered working for Steve with team and scraper and said that at one time Steve had six to eight men with outfits working under him. Belle was a home body and farmed the place in Uintah. She was a hard worker, planting and caring for a garden and small orchard. The remaining land was rented to others. Her home was always immaculately clean and neat. She was a good neigh¬bor. In 1910 Steve purchased grazing land north of the John Heber Robinson farm on Strawberry Creek. In 1933 he purchased the old France farm on Dry Creek, first owned by Joseph David France, and finally sold by Darrel and Vera France. Here Austin and Dolores Winchester and family lived for a number of years. Steve was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. Belle loved to stay at home and care for their place. She was an excellent cook and one of her specialties was divinity candy. She loved to raise flowers and her home was surr¬ounded by them. Steve died at his home in January of 1958. Belle lived until July of 1974. Both are buried in the Uintah Cemetery. Steve Winchester, Mountain Green Brent Winchester, South Weber THE SUCCESSFUL HUNT—L-Steve, Helen and friend 257 |
