Show MARILYN, ELAINE, RICHARD AT MOUNTAIN GREEN HOME WINNIFRED CHARLES PITT Charles and Winnifred Williams Pitt 1924 When Charles Pitt married Winnifred Williams in 1924 the young couple built a little cottage in Mountain Green and settled down to raise a family. Charles Pitt was born, 16 February 1886, in Nephi, Utah, a son of Meshach and Alice Price Pitt. He spent his youth in Nephi, attending school and working as a farm hand. He also worked for a time in a mine at Price. He loved farm animals. When the great earthquake hit San Francisco, California, in 1906, Charles was found in the middle of the excitement, helping to clean up the devastated area and rebuild the bay city. He was 20 years old at the time and never forgot the experience Being interested in livestock from childhood it was natural for Charles to seek employment as a sheep herder. He bought into a partnership with Jim Bird and John Stephen Ostler. The three were partners in the sheep business for more than 20 yrs. It was while trailing the herd through Weber Canyon to Summer grazing land that he met Winnifred Williams. She was born, 9 April 1895, in Farmington, Utah, a daughter of James and Brittamore France Williams. Winnifred attended the Mountain Green and Peterson schools and worked along side with her father and mother on the Williams farm on Cottonwood. Charles and Winnifred were married, 30 June 1924, in Ogden. The young couple built a little cottage on her father's farm and settled down to raise a family which included Elaine, Marilyn and Richard. 323 |
