Winnifred was left alone with the children much of the time as Charles trailed the sheep to the mountains in the Sumner and to the Desert when snow drove the herds to where grazing was plentiful. The kids had a pony which was the delight of their lives. In 1941 Charles quit the sheep business and the family moved to Ogden. He found employment with the Farmer's Grain Company and they lived in a company house in West Ogden. In 1954 the Pitts moved to Roy and Charles took a job with Roy City in the Maintenance Department. Two years later the family returned to Ogden. Winnifred served in the Primary Presidency and as a Visiting Teacher. She supported the children in their music training and especially as a member of the Ogden High School Band. They took many camping trips together. In 1958 a double tragedy struck the Pitt family. Elaine died in June and her father, Charles, died a few months later, leaving Winnifred alone to care for the vtwo remaining children.
