Show NOTE ON SOURCES The single most important resource the authors mined while researching this history is the voluminous archival record of Utah Construction/Utah International. During the major period of research, the company archives, containing more than three hundred boxes of documents and a half million photographs, were housed at corporate headquarters at 550 California Street in San Francisco. They are now open for scholarly research in the Special Collections Department of the Stewart Library at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. Copies of the register and index can be accessed electronically at http://library.weber.edu/ucc. Unless otherwise noted, all references in this essay to corporate documents, both primary and secondary, are references to materials now located at the Stewart Library. The present study also drew upon a considerable number of other primary resources related to Utah’s history that reside at the Stewart Library, including the David Eccles Papers and the Dee Family Papers. Additionally, the Marriott Library at the University of Utah houses important holdings relating to the company’s principals, most significantly collections of papers of David Eccles and the extensive Marriner S. Eccles Collection. Other primary sources the authors consulted in their research are housed at the Utah State Historical Society, the Lee Library at Brigham Young University, and the Merrill Library at Utah State University. Beyond materials in the company archives, the history of the founding of the company and antecedent events derives largely from secondary studies (listed here and in the Selected Bibliography) and from private collections of reminiscences and unpublished personal and family histories. Of particular help in this last regard were personal collections of photos, clippings, letters, 289 |
