The financial impact of the Portland-Astoria disaster hit the Wattises and Coreys hard, leaving a deficit of $69,465.88 owed to First National, Citizen’s Bank of Ogden, and Astoria First National Bank. The Wattises had to give up nearly two city blocks near downtown Ogden to First National Bank of Ogden, along with one hundred separate land parcels, to satisfy their obligations.
