February 27, 1995 To: Commissioner Joe Ritchie. * We want to thank you for coming out to meet with us. We understand that the fairgrounds is here to stay, and hopefully it needs to start paying for itself. However; the folks here today represent a cross section of the community that is most affected by the traffic and noise which is associated with activities scheduled there. We want this meeting to be something positive in policy making, to insure that our life styles are not altered to the extent they have been in the past when large activities were booked. We realize that the Rap Concert that was held recently is over and done with but we think it is important that you hear some of the things that did happen from the folks that were actually there. Following is a few of our comments we hope you will listen to and consider. ** Hundreds of tax paying families & property owners were prisoners for about 14 hours within the area of 1200S, from the freeway to DDO on 400N all the way to the north on Plain city-Farr west road into the industrial park on up to the Harrisville church & highway 89. ** Thousands of cars parked everywhere. (Emergency equipment couldn't have responded if required) ** These thousands of cars & thousands of kids walking on the narrow roads paralysed all traffic even on the freeway as it was backed up to 21st trying to get off at 400N. ** Because it was a work day we also had thousands of daily DDO, IRS & Industrial park traffic involved in hour long waits. ** Farmers couldn't get to there fields. Meals on wheels couldn't get to there folks. Mail & paper delivery took forever because cars were left parked in front of mail boxes. ** Because of the back-up of traffic & time involved, our home yards and fields & roadways were used as bathrooms. {we have video's & pictures to prove this point, we couldn't believe it at first either}. They had no reservations on where or when they went. ** Language was horrible & the kids had no respect for private property or our families. ** Took survey of the hundreds of cars parked all day along 400N over to the west fairground entrance and found their was only two (2) which were registered in weber co. ** Noise could be heard all over the valley miles away. 43
