Show Marriott-Slaterville City 1195 West 400 North MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE, UTAH 84404 TELEPHONE 801-627-1919 FAX 801-627-1880 Keith H. Butler, Mayor H. Orvil Holley, Council President Duncan Torr Murray, Administrator/Attorney William M. Morris, Recorder/Council Director MEMORANDUM To: Dermis Ilium, City Council From: Bill Morris, Council Executive Director Date: February 12, 2000 Re: Historical street names for old Marriott area I appreciate your patience in waiting for the results of the historical research on the original street names for the Marriott and Slaterville areas. This memo will relate only with the historical Marriott area. Elna Lucas and I have discussed this project and she will provide you with a separate memo on her research for the historical Slaterville street names soon. I have attached two maps I used in my research, the first being taken from a 1933 account and the second from a 1935 record. I highlighted the street names at the time for your review. I did not find any relevant information using resources from the Weber County Library. The only avenue I was unable to use was old survey maps at the County Surveyors Office because I was unsure that they would provide any new information. From my research of the Marriott area I found 4 old street names as follows, two of these streets became part of the DDO area: 1. 1200 West on the 1933 map is called "School House Road" after the Marriott School which was where the current Marriott Park now exists. This name differs from Elna's recollection of the road being called "Tomlinson Road" named after a man around the early 1900s with that same surname. I have found no reason for this discrepancy and wonder if it is simply a tradition terminology difference between the two old communities. 2. The 1933 map shows "Butler Lane" on Marriott area that was later taken as part of DDO. 3. The 1935 map shows "Bench Street" on Marriott area that was later taken as part of DDO. 4. The 1935 map legend area shows 2000 West nicknamed "Old Road". I was told by Mildred Slater some years ago that this road used to be a main street in the community because 1900 West (S.R. 126) as we know it today did not exist. This made 2000 West (which is still partially a dirt road today) was the main route until 1900 West was built sometime after 1935. All of the other roads in the community on the map are numbered as they are presently. I enjoyed the historical research involved with this project. Let me know when Elna gives you her memo and we can proceed at that point. If you have any questions, give me a call. 289 |
