Show (26) MARRIOTTSVILLE A settlement embracing about 1400 acres of land was settled in the fall of 1850 by three families. Moses Tracey built the first dwelling house - a double log building on what is commonly known as Brooms Bench. They had considerable difficulty to preserve their stock from wolves, and bears, at this period as the Country around was covered with timber, brush, and heavy wild grass. The settlement being located on the Ogden River about 3 miles N West of Ogden. The Indians under Little Soldier and other chiefs were quite numerous, and often impudent and mischevious. From 60 to 100 lodges and about 200 Warriors In 1854 several families moved into the settlement among them John Marriott (after whom the settlement was named) who was appointed to preside. In 1863 The District was reorganized and Simon F. Halvorson appointed to preside. 1864 First School House built (of logs) Sabbath School in 1867 Thomas Wadsworth Supt. Elder Halvorson continued in this position until May 77 when James Richie was ordained a Bishop and appointed to preside. About 40 families 245 souls -They have organized and in good working order a Female Relief Society - Sabbath School - Young Mens & Young Ladies Imp't. association A good adobie School House.
