Attorney at Law 2411 Kiesel Ave. Suite 409 Ogden, Utah 84401 (801) 621-8710 (801) 621-8731 Fax January 2, 1999 To: All Mayoral and Council Candidates Marriott-Slaterville, UT 84404 Re: "Meet the Candidates Night" on January 15, 1999 Dear Candidates: I would like to invite all of the candidates for mayor and council positions in Marriott-Slaterville to attend the "Meet the Candidates Night" at Pioneer Elementary School on Friday, January 15, 1999 at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The first 15 minutes will be for a brief introduction of the candidates and rules, and for hearing from our Legislative 6 District Representative (and now Speaker of the House), Marty Stephens. As candidates, you should appear early (by 6:15 p.m., the school should be open by then) to draw a number for chair assignment and speaking order. The next 30 minutes (6:45 to 7:15 p.m.) will be for the candidates to take up to two minutes and 20 seconds each to state their goals for the new city, what they would like to accomplish as elected officials, and anything else that they would like to say (a maximum of 2 minutes and 20 seconds each). We will start with the District 1 candidates, then District 2, then Council At Large, and finally, the candidates for Mayor. The final hour and 15 minutes will be divided into 25 minute segments as follows, with the audience being able to ask questions of the candidates: 7:15 to 7:40 p.m. District 1 candidates 7:40 to 8:05 p.m. District 2 candidates 8:05 to 8:30 p.m. At Large and Mayor candidates Each member of the audience will only be able to ask one question during each 25 minute segment until all those present who would like to ask a question have had the opportunity to do so. A time keeper shall be present and each brief question shall be limited to 15 seconds. Each of the four candidates in the group will then have a maximum of 30 seconds in which to respond. Bill Morris has volunteered to help coordinate the meeting. I have been appointed to be the moderator. Gerald Bischoff has volunteered to make sure that each house in the community is delivered a flyer with regards to the 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. time. You may feel free to bring campaign materials, flyers, handouts, etc., but the school will not allow us to hang up, tape, tack, 188 |
