Show RESULTS OF THE PUBLIC HEARING HELD BY THE PETITION SPONSORS REGARDING THE NUMBER OF AND TERMS OF CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS AND REGARDING THE DRAWING OF COUNCIL DISTRICT BOUNDARIES FOR MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY The public hearing was held on August 20, 1998 and the following results were reached: 1. There will be five city council members and a mayor (Council-Mayor form of government). 2. There will be two city council districts, with the city council district boundary line running down the middle of 1900 West. Residents to the east of 1900 West will be in district 1 (east district) and residents to the west of 1900 West will be in district 2 (west district). Each city council district will elect two city council members, and one city council member will be elected at large, with the mayor also being elected at large. 3. The initial terms of the mayor and city council members shall be as follows: the initial term of three city council members (one council member from each district and one at large city council member) shall terminate in January 2000, and the initial term of the mayor and of two city council members (one council member from each district) shall terminate in January 2002. 4. The candidates for the two city council seats for city council district 1 shall be voted for on the same ballot position by the voters in that district voting for two of those listed, with the candidate receiving the highest number of votes to be elected for the longer term, and with the candidate receiving the second highest number of votes to be elected for the shorter term. The candidates for the two city council seats for city council district 2 shall be voted for in the same manner. 5. All of the subsequent terms for the mayor and city council members shall be for four years. 6. After candidates file during Sep. 8th through Sep. 18th at the County Clerk's Office, all residents will vote for four of the six elected officials in the November 3, 1998 election, including those from the district in which they reside and those being elected at large, as follows: Mayor - at large (all voters in City vote for) - elected for term ending Jan. 2002 Council seat A - at large (all voters in City vote for) - elected for term ending Jan. 2000 Council seats B and C - district 1, vote for two on list (only voters in district 1 vote for) one elected for term ending Jan. 2000, and the other elected for term ending Jan. 2002. Council seats D and E - district 2, vote for two on list (only voters in district 2 vote for) one elected for term ending Jan. 2000, and the other elected for term ending Jan. 2002. 7. The next municipal elections for city officials (assuming that there is no runoff for the November 3, 1998 election) will be held in October and November, 1999, with those elected to commence their terms of office in Jan. 2000. 165 |
