Show January 21, 1999 Marriott-Slaterville residents ask the tough questions of those campaigning THE CANDIDATES SPEAK: Orville Holley, a candidate for a council-at-large position for the Marriott-Slaterville area, gives a short, introductory speech to the crowd (above) at Meet the Candidate night. Last summer residents in the rapidly growing suburb voted to form a city after the state Legislature did away with townships. Next month residents will vote for five city council members and a mayor to lead their new city. Last week's meeting, held at Pioneer Elementary School, was attended by most candidates running for mayor, council-at-large posts and the district one and district two positions for the upcoming elections, and candidates chatted with residents about why they should choose them to serve as the city's first elected officials.
