named the Defense Depot Marriott since the area was at that time part of the community of Marriott. This would serve not only to honor the historical names attached to the area, but would also serve to honor some of the original settlers of the area, as well as their descendants. It is my understanding that the Planning Advisory Committee recommended that a historical name be chosen. Moreover, Mayor Glenn Mecham recently mentioned the importance of J. Willard Marriott's legacy pertaining to the Marriott Hotel chain, the Ogden Marriott Hotel, and other business achievements and community service. Indeed, Mayor Mecham's comments in this regard could also apply to the community founded by J. Willard Marriott's family: "We are so pleased the Marriott flag is here flying over Ogden and Weber County."
