First candidate files for office in new city MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE - Keith Butler, 68, Slaterville is the first resident of the new city of Marriott-Slaterville to file for public office in the November election. He filed to run for mayor Tuesday. Butler was one of the committee of residents who worked to incorporate the townships of Marriott and Slaterville this year. The incorporation vote passed overwhelmingly in August. The city's new mayor and five council members will be elected in the Nov. 3 general election. Candidates have until Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. to file for mayor at the Weber County Clerk/Auditor's office. Two council members each will be elected from the east and west half of the new city, divided by 1900 West, and one will be elected at-large. TRENTELMAN Standard-Examiner staff MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE - So many people want to run for office in Weber County's newest city that a primary election will have to be held Nov. 3, delaying the final vote until February. Seventeen candidates filed last week for the five council seats. The primary will whittle that number down to 10. The filing deadline was Friday. Four candidates filed for the "at large" seat representing the whole city. The 10 winners in the primary, plus the two mayoral candidates, will to run for election on Feb. 2. The two mayoral candidates are Keith Butler, 68, 1613 W. 400 North, and Randy Phipps, 50, 981 W. 1700 South. Butler, one of the leaders of the incorporation drive, said Monday he was glad to see the heavy filing even if it means a delay in getting the city up and running. Candidates for the "at large" seat: Dennis E. Ilium, 949 N. 1200 West; H. Orvil Holley, 575 S. 2050 West; Ned Allred, 2503 W. Pioneer Road; Bill Green, 804 W. 17th St. Candidates for District 1, the half of the city that is east of 1900 West, are: Delbert Hodson, 475 S. 1200 West; Bryan D. Thiriot, 540 S. 1900 West; Von E. Allred, 1645 W. 250 North; Steven L. Mecham, 843 W. 1700 South; James Elmer, 976 W. 17th St.; Judi Elmer, 956 W. 17th St.; and Ren L. Meyerhoffer, 1245 W. 200 South. Candidates for District 2, the half of the city west of 1900 West, are: Barbara Brown, 749 S. 2000 West; Carl H. Parker, 3485 W. Pioneer Road; Kim R.
