Show Weber Sentinel, October 20 - 27, 1998 Birth of a New City Marriott-Slaterville The citizens of Marriott-Slaterville held their first public meeting October 15, 1998, 6 PM, at the Pioneer Elementary School. Commissioners Joe H. Ritchie, Glen H. Burton, and Bruce H. Anderson were present to answer questions and concerns from the citizens present. Commissioner Glen H. Burton told the audience, "We're here to help you for a smooth transition." Commissioner Bruce H. Anderson said, "We'll offer the least expensive services for contracting, and continue with the county sheriff services. The decisions are up to you folks." The current fire district services will also continue under the county for now. The public was able to ask the commissioners questions of particular concerns. One of the first concerns voiced by the audience was the insufficient amount of irrigation water. Flood and storm waters are under county auspices. The community can expect a consultants report by mid-December, public hearings thereafter because it's a county wide issue, said Burton. A member of the audience asked when will the road completion on Dinsdale and 1100 West, and the bridge expansion be completed? The road has had ongoing repairs for the past two years. "There are federal funds available, but we need to wait until the city government is in place. We're also dealing with property acquisitions and right-of-ways to be set up for the 1100 West bridge. It's our commitment to make sure you're up and running on good solid ground," said Commissioner Burton. 171 |
