Show Randy Phipps was elected by the Planning Commission members to serve as the first chair of the body. Randy had served as an appointed member township commissioner, and he also worked on the Marriott Planning Committee for a number of years. Randy devoted much time to compile the city's zoning and subdivision ordinance. Gerald Bischoff assisted greatly in putting together the Code of Ethics for the Planning Commission. Keith Slater, Barbara Brown, Carl Parker, Carolyn Deru and Scott Van Leuween met faithfully almost every week prior to incorporation to ensure that the temporary land use ordinances were in place at the inception of the city. The first goal of the Planning Commission was to update the nearly ten year old master plan, now properly dubbed as the "general plan." Every Wednesday evening in August, the Planning Commission held a public hearing to get input from community residents and others for the future of the city. The Planning Commission conducted their meetings in good order and sought as much input as possible. These hearings on the general plan continued into September. Duncan Murray, Owen Burnham, and Jayna Smout, functioned as staff assistance to the Planning Commission. Also, Bill Morris functions as staff for the sexually-oriented business zoning ordinance. Also, during August, City Council President Orvil Holley made assignments to council members for various aspects of city government, and for positions on other government boards throughout the county. Ordinances were passed relating to zoning requirements for sexually-oriented businesses, the adoption of the Uniform Building Code, other technical codes, building inspections, animal control, and other technicalities. Decisions were made by the council for the Marriott-Slaterville municipal seal after a presentation put together by James Elmer. 2 330 |
