FOR EDUCATIONAL USE ONLY Page 1999 UT H.R. 5 (SN) NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the state of Utah that Marriott-Slaterville City be designated an open space preservation city. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives encourage Marriott-Slaterville City, as a pilot program, to develop a model zoning ordinance emphasizing open space preservation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives encourage Marriott-Slaterville City to collect information on growth management and open space from state and local government entities to aid, encourage, and promote open space concepts. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives encourage Marriott-Slaterville City to make recommendations to the Legislature regarding potential open space legislation, conduct community education, and continue to work to involve the Marriott Heritage Foundation, the public, and the community on open space projects. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah Department of Community and Economic Development and the mayor of Marriot-Slaterville City. 1999 UT H.R. 5 (SN) END OF DOCUMENT LEGISLATURE '99 Lawmakers commend Marriott-Slaterville SALT LAKE CITY - The House has overwhelmingly passed a resolution designating the Weber County community of Marriott-Slaterville as Utah's first open space preservation city. The community just west of the old Defense Depot Ogden was first settled 150 years ago. Despite the passage of all those years, the city covering 7.3 square miles is still 72 percent agricultural. Speaker Marty Stephens, R-Farr West, said the legislators hope Marriott-Slaterville will develop a model zoning ordinance emphazing open space preservation that could become a guide for other communities.
