Show AUGUST 4, 1998 A DAY OF CRITICAL CHOICE QUESTIONS We believe there are some questions that you need to seriously think about before voting on the incorporation question before you. 1. What are the benefits of the incorporation? 2. Do the benefits justify the price of increased taxes? 3. How will the tax increase affect people with modest or fixed incomes in our community? 4. Given growth & development is an urban problem, will incorporation make a significant difference in protecting our community from the "enemies"? 5. Will the tax increases be worth the little impact we may have on decisions as to planning, development, and growth in our community? 6. How will incorporation improve the community, services, ETC? 7. How will public business be conducted? Will it be done openly? Or will it be done in backyards or behind closed doors? 8. Will incorporation lead to bitter disputes such as in cities around us? 9. Will incorporation resurrect old antagonisms? 10. Who wins with incorporation? Who loses with incorporation? 11. Do any side deals or special agreements exist among those pushing incorporation concerning the operation of the future city? Will these deals be disclosed? 12. How long will it be before a "Pharaoh", that knew not the founders' good intentions, comes to power? Will the intentions and plans of the founders then be laid to waste? 13. Will enough people be interested enough to run, campaign, and vigilantly hold policy makers accountable to the citizens of the new town? We think that the answers to these questions are overwhelmingly negative. Many others around us have found that the Rosy Scenario did not turn out to be rosy, but more of a bed of thorns(taxes, disputes, lawsuits, apathy, and regrets).
