MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY FEBRUARY 2000 This winter continues to be mild. There have been a few storms hit us and drop some snow, but compared to past years it has been relatively light. Since the ground hog saw his shadow on February 2, we expect spring may arrive soon. Jim Ito, Parks & Recreation Director, has been working with the LDS Church to acquire the two Church-owned parks in Marriott-Slaterville for the city. Randy Phipps has been working with Weber County to acquire a large parcel of property owned by the county. Acquisition of this site would greatly add to the proposed trail plan along the Weber River should the county desire to deed the property to Marriott-Slaterville. The Planning Commission unanimously supported the trail and pathway plan prepared by Randy Phipps, but much of the plan was eviscerated by the City Council after their public hearing. The plan apparently seemed like too much too soon. The unapproved portions will still remain as a conceptual plan to be presented at a later date. Randy Phipps was commended by the City Council for his extraordinary service for the community, including but not limited to the changes to the zoning ordinances. The City Council also established the city's first impact fee. This was imposed to be used for storm drainage projects. Other impact fees may be imposed at a later date since the city plans to effectively handle new growth. 342
