Show GET IT ALL, TOGETHER Committee for Marriott/Slaterville City Preserving Our Future GROWING BY LEAPS AND BOUNDARIES As the saying goes, change is inevitable, and for that matter necessary. Right now we have a unique opportunity to make positive change in Slaterville and Marriott that will help us to preserve our unique rural atmosphere. GROWING REASONS TO INCORPORATE The Wasatch front is estimated to be the home to nearly 5 million people within the next 50 years. Surrounding cities are and will be expanding to meet the growth. Now is the time to choose who will control our destiny - our own city or a city next door. Our communities possess a rich history and heritage. Our community leadership has been the envy of other townships. Marriott and Slaterville share the same goals and direction. We must unite together to insure our destiny, and incorporation is the best way to do this. DID YOU KNOW? Marriott/Slaterville City will be very wealthy, we will generate nearly half a million dollars each year in revenue mostly from sales and gasoline taxes from local businesses. Currently, the county gets all of this tax money, but incorporation we bring it to our community. This means we do not anticipate a property tax increase as a result of our incorporation because we are well funded already. WE HAVE MUCH IN COMMON, NOW, THERE IS MORE TO COME Slaterville and Marriott share a common history. Both communities were settled by early Mormon pioneers. Our children have grown up together and attended the same schools, helping our friendships extend across our communities. For two neighboring communities sharing so much already, the next logical step is to merge. WE'RE BOUND TO BE BETTER TOGETHER Currently, both Marriott and Slaterville are townships. Unfortunately, in 1997 the legislature failed to protect our township borders. Slaterville and Marriott have fought off several annexations from adjacent cities in just the last year to protect our communities. We cannot do this anymore since our township lost control of our borders. After the year 2002 our townships may even cease to exist, if Weber County wants to dissolve us completely. We are fair game for annexation into surrounding cities and risk being annexed and gone forever. Now, as the former Marriott-Slaterville territory within D.D.O. reverts to Ogden City, we can see the handwriting on the wall. It is time to take up the reins and unite together to incorporate and govern our own community. THE ONLY WAY GO IS TOGETHER When the state legislature took away our township borders, they also prevented us from seeking incorporation separately. The legislature stopped small areas with a lot of sales tax money, like Marriott, from ever having any chance of forming a city; and areas with limited amounts of sales tax income, such as Slaterville, were also obstructed from incorporation. By incorporating together we balance perfectly. Our incorporation study results, done by Wikstrom Consulting and Planning from Salt Lake City, show us that our proposed city is feasible! Now, we must work together. OUR STUDY RESULTS The study conducted by Wikstrom Consulting for Marriott/Slaterville City shows that we hold a large amount of sales tax revenue to boost us into the next century. We can preserve our community names and identity. 130 |
