Dear Concerned Resident, Today, August 1, 1998, I received a second unsigned flyer in my newspaper box. I was embarrassed when I received the first one. I felt that anyone who would use such scare tactics should at least have the courage to put their name on the flyer. I wrote a response but decided not to send it. But enough is enough. Either the person writing this flyer is a professor of glittering generalities and is determined to see our communities split and divided into the surrounding cities or he/she feels that we, the residents of this community, who want to take responsibility in how our communities are run, are either to stupid or to crooked to do so. Years of preparation have gone into asking for your support on August 4th. The research has been done and it clearly shows that we can financially afford to become a city. The important question is do we really want to? I spent a good deal of time fighting annexation desires from Ogden City. 1 have also spent a good deal of time representing you on our planing committee and more recently on the Marriott Township Planning Commission. It is my conclusion that uniting the two communities of Marriott and Slaterville is not only a good idea but essential if we desire to remain the type of communities that we now are. A YES on Tuesday will say that Marriott and Slaterville can unite as one city for the greater good of both communities. A NO vote and you can say goodbye to both Marriott and Slaterville because both Ogden City and Farr West City want a part of us. Ample time has been given to both proponents and opponents to express their concerns, fears, expectations and desires. Scare tactics have no place among us. I encourage your to vote on Tuesday.
