Earlier this year, residents of the Marriott-Slaterville area voted overwhelmingly to create the new city in hopes of maintaining their identify in a fast-growing area. But after 17 people filed for the five seats, the new city was forced to hold a primary. Tuesday's winners will join mayoral candidates Keith Butler and Randy Phipps in a final February election. Voters chose H. Orvil Holley and Dennis E. Ilium to square off for the city's at-large seat which represents the entire city. The two men beat out challengers Ned Allred and Bill Green to win their chance at the council seat. Holley received 32.83 percent of the vote while Ilium got 29.37 percent. Allred and Green received 26.57 percent and 11.23 percent respectively. In District 1, Judi Elmer, Delbert Hodson, Ren. L. Meyerhoffer and Bryan D. Thiriot will compete for the two open seats. District 1 represents the half of the city that is east of 1900 West. Hodson was the high vote getter in that race, winning 30 percent of the vote. Meyerhoffer came in second with 21.54 percent. Thiriot and Elmer received 16.92 percent and 14.87 percent respectively. Von Allred and James Elmer were dropped from the ballot after receiving 14.10 percent and 2.56 percent respectively. Winners in District 2 include Barbara Brown, Darren A. Devries, Kim R. Slater and Rob Smout. The district encompasses the half of the city west of 1900 West. Slater took the lead with 31.87 percent while Smout trailed with 24.53 percent. Devries and Brown received 17.19 percent and 12.16 percent respectively. The four beat out Kelly Aiken and Carl Parker who received 6.50 percent and 7.76 percent of the vote. 180 |
