Show 8 It was completed in the time that Bishop Thomas Powell was bishop, but was not dedicated until Lawrence Ritchie was bishop. Apostle Rudger Clausin dedicated it. In the year of 1940, the Government bought all land on north side of 12th Street from Brooms Bench down to meeting house and north to Harrisville for the U.S. General Depot. Some of our oldest and best church workers had to sell and buy homes elsewhere. The work brought a lot of people west. Some built new homes in our ward. Some are active L.D.S., and some are not. At the present time, July, 1957, we have 84 L.D.S. families and a population of 364. We feel our ward is in good working condition with our present bishop, Marion L. Powell, who is the grandson of the first bishop, James Ritchie and John D. Powell. Our first counselor at the present time, Orville Holmes, is married to the great-great grand-daughter of pioneer Thomas Stanger. The second counselor, Carl W. Hodson, is a grandson of William Hodson, an early pioneer. Glen McFarland, our present ward clerk, is the grandson of H. H. Tracy, Sr., first counselor of first bishop. No doubt there will be some names of active members which I have omitted, but it has not been done intentionally. Relief Society First President was Ann Bickington with Elizabeth Marriott and Emma Butler as counselors. Emma Butler was released and Ingelborg Halverson took her place. Ruth Hodson was secretary. Second President was Maria H. Butler with Francis Parry and Mary N. Butler as counselors and Mary E. Pierce as secretary. Third President was Mary N. Butler with Annie C. Dinsdale and Marcia F. Reeder as counselors. Mary E. Pierce and Sarah James as secretaries. 378 |
