Show MARRIOTT/SLATERVILLE CITY January 1999 Objectives: To organize a city government to foster and promote a community spirit of oneness and goodness. To establish a government that will focus efforts to keep our area a good place for families in a rural setting. How to do it: 1) [Growth:] Growth is inevitable, but through proper established zoning and ordinances we can insure space for each family who builds here. We are better neighbors when we are not stepping on each others' toes. The Old Testament warned people of the folly of building or joining house to house. (Isaiah 5:8). Let a real estate developer go and what do you get? See I-15 between Ogden and Salt Lake City. 2) [Safety:] The people in our city have worked hard to obtain property and homes for their families. The city will be responsible to see that we are protected by both sheriff and fire departments. This protection, though important, will not meet the standard expected by the families of this city. Other cities in our county have more police officers than we will have and you wouldn't dare walk through their neighborhoods. Gangs, hoodlums, drugs, vandalism, break-ins, car theft, etc. My point is this: these things do not need to happen in our city. A watchful and determined citizenry is not the kind of climate that crime can stand. Our city council and mayor can help us in this pursuit. 3) |Cost:[ We are overtaxed now and can't afford additional expenditures or a raise in taxes. The new City Council should strongly consider working for free, for at least one year. By then they should have an understanding of the income and expenditures for the city. Then if they have been prudent in their budgeting and the city has the means, a small stipend might be considered for individual council members thereafter. 4) Other Issues: There are other important issues that will concern the council some of which include: transportation, roads, waterways, master plans, business, manufacturing, and Industry. These and many other issues will be challenges for the new city. There is enough brains and vision in our good community to accomplish any task that comes before us. Orvil Holley 191 |
