Show March 9, 2000 MARRIOTT/SLATERVILLE Sleep Inn to get police substation The Weber County Sheriff's Department is considering a plan to put a sheriff substation in the lobby of the Sleep Inn at 1155 S. 1700 West. Sgt. Kevin Burns told the Marriott-Slaterville City Council that truckers parking their rigs along Pilot Road, adjacent to Pilot Travel Center on 1200 South, limit access to the only fire hydrant in the area. Burns said the motel welcomes an increased police presence and has offered a table in their lobby. The Council is also considering making one side of the road a fire lane. March 23, 2000 MARRIOTT/SLATERVILLE Council gets sound system Marriott-Slaterville's city council members will no longer have to strain to hear during their council meetings. Planning commission member Scott Van Leeuwen donated a sound system to the city, and the city has purchased microphones. In addition, to the sound system, Van Leeuwen has also donated a refrigerator and microwave for use at the city offices. City endorses transit sales tax The mayor and City Council petitioned the Weber County Commission to place a one-quarter cent increase in sales tax option on the ballot to enhance transit service in Weber County. The resolution passed by the Council stated that the Utah Legislature has given Weber County the ability to allow voters to decide if up to a one-quarter of one percent of sales tax should be expended to foster transit options. ? Council to honor good neighbors The City Council passed a resolution creating a City Good Neighbor program to recognize those who excel as good neighbors. Council member Dennis Ilium said the awards are intended to encourage actions that make for good neighbors. He said, "We spend a lot of time with zoning violations, telling people no, no, no, and wanted to provide some positive reinforcement." The mayor will present four Good Neighbor Awards each September to residents or businesses who have improved the appearance of their properties. May 11, 2000 MARRIOTT/SLATERVILLE_ Council approves consolidation At the urging of Weber County Sheriff Brad Slater, the City Council passed a resolution supporting the consolidation of a countywide public safety dispatch center. The consolidation would merge three dispatch centers in the county. The move is designed to allow officers from different jurisdictions to communicate with each other. With the present system, Slater said, two officers can be on different sides of a building and not be able to contact each other directly. Instead, they have go through their respective dispatch centers. This creates a delay that could be dangerous or even deadly. Consolidating the dispatch centers would take approximately three years, but according to Slater, the move would reduce operating costs by about $8 million over 10-12 years. Ogden, Riverdale. Washington Terrace and the Weber County Fire District, have also approved the project. 291 |
