MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY OCTOBER 1999 Fall stayed drier and warmer than normal. There has been little or no rain for a long period of time. The difficult ordeal surrounding the general plan seems to be subsiding. Some lingering concerns, however, still abound, and a few citizens even filed a petition with the city to request that some additional areas be designated for low density housing to preserve our country atmosphere. Otherwise, the implementation of the new city's government organization seems to be proceeding well, and other new ordinances continue to be prepared and passed. The most significant ordinance of the month was the juvenile curfew ordinance. This ordinance was prepared at the request of Mayor Keith Butler being provoked by juvenile vandalism problems in the community during the recent summer months. It was expected that this issue would be quite controversial, but as it turned out, the ordinance was supported, especially by the Sheriffs department (who seeks to reduce the potential for crime committed by youth). The juvenile curfew ordinance was generally modeled after the current Weber County curfew ordinance. At the request of the City Recorder, who prepared the ordinance, some 8th grade English students at North Davis Jr. High School gave their input on what they thought a curfew ordinance should be like. Their comments were very helpful. In response to citizens requests desiring to keep abreast of the city's affairs, the city staff prepared a municipal newsletter called "The Pioneer Post" to be circulated each month to Marriott-Slaterville residents.
