Show The Pioneer Post Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter March 2000 Volume II Issue 3 Message from the Mayor I have a few items I would like you to consider and give serious thought. Census 2000: Within the next few weeks, you will be asked to provide a complete and accurate count of everyone that lives in your residence. Please make sure you participate. The head count is the way we get our fair share of the disbursement of governments funds for our schools and community. Commuter rail: Ogden Mayor Godfrey has formed a coalition of mayors to look into the feasibility of establishing commuter rail between Brigham City and Provo. I will pass on specific information about this to everyone as it is available so you can make a personal decision to vote in favor or against this proposal when it goes to a vote. Under the type of government for our city, the city council is the legislative branch that represents you. I solicit everyone to contact your council member to bring your ideas, suggestions, or concerns to the public forum. Let us work to make our city the place we all can love, live in and appreciate. Lastly, I want to share the following letter that was given to me by Cory Waters. I encourage our youth to continue to become involved in our city. Sincerely, Mayor Dear Mayor Butler; I wanted to write to you to let you know how much I like Marriott-Slaterville, it is a peaceful community. I love to go to the park and launch my model rocket, enjoy summer pack meetings and have family picnics. I love the history of Slaterville, finding out it was named Richard Slater who was in the Mormon Battalion. I found out also that before that my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather, John Clark, had owned and farmed the land from 2nd Street to 12th Street and from Washington Boulevard to the Great Salt Lake, which would have taken in parts of historic Slaterville. I love to hunt pheasant and dove in the fields surrounding my home, and see the deer that also wander the fields. As you know most of the children attend West Weber Elementary, I am currently attending Rocky Mountain Jr. High enjoying the 7th grade and looking forward to Fremont High. We first moved to Slaterville in December 1991. We live by the Central Weber Sewer. You can say they are our next door neighbors. All of the people I know are really nice and I would like to stay in this area, but since we moved here houses have been going up everywhere, so it's becoming larger everyday. I would like to see the number of houses limited in Marriott-Slaterville, and keep it the small, close community that we have. Cory Waters Rocky Mtn. Jr. High 7th Grader Community Services Update: Each month we will try to provide some additional information regarding municipal services available in our community. This month we will feature culinary water, snow removal, and road repair/ traffic signs. Bona Vista Water currently provides all of the culinary water service for our city and for some of the adjacent cities and areas. A local Marriott-Slaterville resident, Joe Deru, is the Chair of the Board. The Manager, Gary Hales, or his staff, can be reached on a day-to-day basis at 621-0474 regarding any questions that you may have. For new construction, Bona Vista Water will require proof of secondary water before culinary water is available. Our City currently has a contract with Weber County to provide snow removal. Although we should not need any further snow removal this season, if you have any concerns about this service, please call Kelly Hipwell or his office at Weber County at 399-8396. 361 |
