Show PLANNING COMMISSION July 31, 1990 Page Seven Sherri Cowlsman moved to Slaterville 9 years ago along 1200 W. She has Jr. High School students and feel with high density housing the increased traffic will be a safety hazard to the children. They want land for their kids to move around in. Brad Slater, resident of Slaterville, stated that the Planning Commission have now heard the recommendations from the Planning Committees. He would urge the Planning Commission to listen to the community. There have been some concessions on both the residents of the community in favor of some commercial and industrial community, but there have also been some concerns that the community still maintain a semi-rural atmosphere. He urged the members to listen to the recommendations and make the best and proper choice. Kim Slater asked Orvil Holley to ask that the residents of Slaterville that support the community concerns stand and make it known to the Planning Commission. He also stated that some years ago a substantial portion of Slaterville and Marriott was given to D.D.O. and he would hate to see move given away to commercial and industrial development. Orvil Holley asked that the residents in favor of the community proposal to please stand. There was no citizens from Slaterville in the audience in opposition. Alvin Phillips stated he opposes the sewer plant in the area. Steve Meacham of the Marriott community indicated that the Planning Commission should recognize that if they don't listen to the community. The community may band together and take the right of zoning away from the Planning Commission. Kevin Holmes, Marriott citizen, indicated that the wind blows the smell from the sewer plant through Marriott even though there are few property owners hooked up to the sewer. Don Holbert, Slaterville resident, stated everything the Planning Committee has represented is true. There are a great many areas in Ogden City where high density housing could be built so they could enjoy their rural atmosphere. Mr. Hobson stated that he has been in the area for 40 years and his ancestors have lived in the area before him. He is a farmer and would like to see the ground maintained as farm ground and not covered over with commercial activities. Scott VanLeeuwen indicated that Marriott also has representation from the audience of those who support the Marriott Planning Committee's recommendations and asked them to stand. Members from the audience stood who were in favor. MOTION: Commissioner Thompson moved to close the public hearing regarding the Slaterville/Marriott Masterplan update. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Hancock and voting was unanimous. MOTION: Commissioner Widdison moved to reopen the public Planning Commission meeting. The motion was seconded by Wayne Gibson and voting was unanimous. 433 |
