Show 7. the affairs of the company in proper perspective. This we did 10 years ago in our annual report for the year 1960 which started with a preface entitled "A Decisive Decade." This preamble pointed out that in the prior 10 years during the 50's the company profits had exceeded by 175% the total earnings for the first 51 years, that total assets had more than quadrupled, that shareholders' equity had risen from $12 million to $51. 4 million, that the dividend rate had increased 150%, and that the number of shareholders had increased from 150 to 2, 550.
