In the longer run, as the United States seeks greater self sufficiency in energy, greater reliance will necessarily be placed on coal, uranium, and domestically-produced oil and natural gas, in all of which Utah has an interest. What will happen to the world and U. S. economies in 1974 is difficult to foresee with clarity. Declining economic activity seems almost a certainty, recession a probability, and depression a possibility. Yet, based on what we know now, I believe that Utah International will achieve higher profit levels in 1974 even under conditions of either declining economic activity or mild recession.
