YOU WILL NOTE THAT THE OVERALL USE OF ENERGY HAS GROWN SUBSTAN-TIALLY. OIL USE INCREASED JUST OVER 43% AND COAL INCREASED SLIGHTLY UNDER 40%. BUT THE USE OF NATURAL GAS ALMOST DOUBLED, THE USE OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY MORE THAN DOUBLED, AND FOR THE FIRST TIME GEOTHERMAL AND NUCLEAR ARE SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO CHART. THESE SHIFTS AMONG THE ENERGY SOURCES DID NOT JUST HAPPEN. THE UNITED STATES IN ITS FOLLY BEGAN TO REGULATE THE PRICE OF NATURAL GAS AND THE POLITICALLY ADMINISTERED PRICE WAS BELOW WHAT OTHERWISE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE TRUE MARKET PRICE. BY PRICING NATURAL GAS TOO CHEAPLY, THE DEMAND FOR IT WAS ARTIFICIALLY STIMULATED, EXPLORATION FOR IT CURTAILED, AND ULTIMATELY PRODUCTION OF IT BEGAN TO DECLINE. OTHER FUELS - |
