Show 20. New Mexico to produce coal from a nearby deposit to fuel a new generating plant on which construction was recently completed. Earnings from these operations were little changed over the levels of last year and should show some modest improvement in 1974. While the volume may fluctuate from quarter to quarter depending upon the operating rate of the individual generating units, from year to year results do not change significantly because the volume is relatively steady and the margins are maintained by the escalation clauses in the contracts. Our public utility customers that produce electricity from Navajo coal are plagued by problems of meeting EPA requirements on emissions of pollutants with equipment and technologies not yet clearly proven and costly to install. |
