I HAVE SERVED AS PRESIDENT OF THE SAN FRANCISCO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, A DIRECTOR OF THE CALIFORNIA STATE CHAMBER, AND HAVE JUST RECENTLY CONCLUDED TWO YEARS AS CHAIRMAN OF THE BUSINESS COUNCIL, WHOSE MEMBERSHIP TRULY INCLUDES THE BUSINESS ELITE. I CONTINUE TO SERVE AS A DIRECTOR OF WELLS FARGO, SOUTHERN PACIFIC, AND INDUSTRIAL INDEMNITY, NOT TO MENTION G.E., UTAH AND THEIR AFFILIATES. I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN ELECTED AS CHAIRMAN OF THE STANFORD RESEARCH INSTITUTE. I AM 63 NOW AND MY CAREER IS NEARLY OVER. I WILL STAY ON THE G. E. BOARD UNTIL I AM 71 BUT I WILL NOT CONTINUE AS UTAH'S CHIEF EXECUTIVE AFTER 65. I CANNOT CLAIM TO HAVE PLANNED MY CAREER BUT SOMEBODY UP THERE MUST HAVE BEEN LOOKING AFTER ME, FOR IT TURNED OUT WELL - NOT JUST BECAUSE I'M A WEALTHY MAN - NOT JUST BECAUSE |
