Show 32- BUT THE EVIDENCE GROWS THAT THE GOVERNMENTAL PROCESS IS NOT WORKING WELL AND THAT GOVERNMENT MAY BE CONTRIBUTING MORE TO THE PROBLEMS THAN TO THE SOLUTIONS. CONSIDER ONCE AGAIN OUR INABILITY AFTER NEARLY SIX YEARS TO AGREE UPON AN ENERGY POLICY THAT MAKES ANY SENSE OR A PROGRAM TO GET INFLATION UNDER CONTROL OR A REALISTIC PLAN TO SOLVE UNEMPLOYMENT. I SENSE A GROWING UNEASE ON THAT PART OF THE PUBLIC THAT QUESTIONS WHETHER THE GOVERNMENT IS COMPETENT TO DO WHAT IT HAS SET OUT TO DO AND INDEED WHAT IT HAS BEEN ASKED TO DO, PEOPLE ARE BEGINNING TO REASSESS WHETHER THE PROBLEMS WILL BE BETTER SOLVED BY ACTING THROUGH GOVERNMENT OR THROUGH EXPRESSING THEMSELVES INDIVI-DUALLY THROUGH THE MARKET SYSTEM. THE FUROR SET UP BY DESIGNING AN AUTOMOBILE THAT WOULD NOT FUNCTION UNLESS THE DRIVER HAD HIS OR HER SEAT BELT FASTENED OR DENYING THE WEIGHT WATCHER THE RIGHT TO RUN THE RISK OF USING SUGAR SUBSTITUTES MAY HAVE DRIVEN HOME THE LOSS OF |
