OCR Text	Show GOOD EVENING, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN EXECUTIVE VIEW - STANFORD UNIVERSITY FEB. 8, 1979 SINCE IT NOW APPEARS THAT WE ARE DESTINED TO SPEND MUCH OF THIS EVENING TOGETHER, IT MIGHT BE WELL FOR YOU TO LEARN AT THE OUTSET WHAT PROMPTS A PERSON LIKE ME TO ACCEPT READILY THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK TO A GROUP LIKE YOU. THE PAY IS POOR. THE HOUR INCONVENIENT. THE PARKING DIFFICULT. ANY RESULTANT PUBLICITY IS UNLIKELY TO FEED EVEN A STARVING EGO. THESE CONDITIONS NOTWITHSTANDING, THERE ARE COMPELLING REASONS THAT MADE YOUR INVITATION VERY ENTICING. TRUE THOUGH IT IS, ONE REASON IS NOT SIMPLY BECAUSE I HAVE SPENT MUCH OF MY LIFE FOLLOWING CLOSELY AND USUALLY BEHIND YOUR LAST SPEAKER. I FIRST MET ERNIE ARBUCKLE IN 1934 WHEN WE PLAYED ON OPPOSING TEAMS IN THE FINALS OF THE INTRAMURAL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP HERE AT STANFORD. HIS TEAM WON. WITH ME TRAILING BEHIND, EACH OF US WAS ALL-INTRAMURAL FOR THREE YEARS, PLAYED RUGBY FOR THE PALO ALTO ALL BLACKS, GRADUATED FROM STANFORD AND TOOK OUR MASTERS AT THE STANFORD GRADUATE SCHOOL OF
